PPEPP-EU, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Government’s Regional Population Training Institutes (RPTIs) and Nursing and Midwifery Colleges (NMCs), organised exclusive training programmes for its Community Nutrition and Health Promoters (CNHPs). The five-day trainings were held in five batches between May and August 2025.
The participating CNHPs came from the project’s haor and the south-western coastal belt areas, where access to essential healthcare services remains limited compared to other project areas.
The primary objective of the training is to comprehensively enhance the knowledge and skills of the staff, enabling them to address essential maternal and child health and nutrition issues, identify maternal and child health emergencies at an early stage, and ensure timely and proper referral of patients.
The training programme, structured into various learning and practical sessions, imparted both theoretical and practical knowledge, covering topics related to nutrition and healthcare for mothers, children and adolescents.
During the hands-on sessions, trainees gained practical experience with medical equipment and essential tools and techniques, including medical examinations using a human skeleton, dummy neonatal models, and delivery dummies.
The training was conducted by qualified professionals, including doctors, nursing instructors, and midwifery instructors. To date, 125 CNHPs from the project’s 19 partner organisations have received training through the mentioned institutions.
PPEPP-EU expects the training will help capacitate CNHPs working in the most remote areas of the country, in providing essential advice and services to pregnant and lactating mothers and children, and ensuring timely referrals even after the project’s completion, aligning with SDG-3.
