Dr. Nomita Halder ndc, Managing Director of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), has called for expansion of microenterprises to achieve sustainable poverty reduction. Dr. Halder made this remark during her visit to various field-level activities under the Pathways to Prosperity for Extremely Poor People-European Union (PPEPP-EU) project in Bagerhat district from 26th to 28th December 2023. Mr Kazi Rajeeb Iqbal, Executive Director of Nabolok Parishad accompanied her during the visit.
Dr. Halder observed diverse income-generating activities and microenterprises initiated by participants of the project in Morelganj and Mongla upazilas. Notable initiatives included the transportation of fish fries in oxygenated vans, fishing gear enterprises, mobile sales centres for fish and fisheries products, food processing businesses, and small businesses like grocery shops.
In addition to visiting the IGAs, Dr. Halder joined in discussions with members of a Mother and Child Forum and Social Development Center. The adolescent girls organized under the Social Development Center performed a street drama on social issues showcasing the community’s commitment to holistic development.
Dr. Halder also attended a nutrition fair organized by adolescent girls, where she emphasized the application of nutritional knowledge in personal and family lives. She handed over various assistive devices such as wheelchairs, crutches, and hearing aids to persons with disabilities.
